Begin without an agenda
Ask what interests each person and what makes them hesitant. Listening is more useful than treating the discussion as a pitch. Neither person needs to decide immediately or match the other’s enthusiasm.
Be concrete about expectations
Talk about the type of venue, what you might want to observe and what you do not want. Avoid assuming that an agreement to visit implies agreement to any particular activity. It can simply mean exploring the setting together.
Make a flexible exit plan
Agree on how you will communicate if one person becomes uncomfortable or wants to leave. Make the plan practical and easy to use. A change of mind does not need to be justified to other guests.
Keep reflecting afterward
Leave space for each person to describe the experience in their own terms. Avoid scoring the evening or using it as proof that someone should agree to a future plan. This is general communication guidance, not therapy or relationship advice tailored to your circumstances.
