Dive bar is a loose description. It can refer to places with different music, prices and service styles. Check the opening hours, address and accepted payment methods through the operator’s own information. A photograph of a simple interior gives you little detail about how crowded the bar becomes or what a night there costs.

Watch where people queue and how they order. Give staff time to finish serving and keep doorways clear. Conversation with regulars may develop on its own; let people choose whether to engage. A greeting and an uncomplicated order give you time to notice the atmosphere. If you feel comfortable, stay. If the room feels unfriendly or the music is wrong for you, choose another place.
